From my second visit to Devils Tower National Monument. This day the sky was entirely overcast so there was no clear view of the sun. This series of photographs was taken over a period of 30 minutes around sunset. You can see how the change in lighting impacts the cloud coloring and changes the landscape. Taken from one of my favorite vantage points in the park.
The first photograph in the series was taken just before sunset. Sky is brightest. Photographs were taken at three times, before, during and just after sunset and multiple focal lengths and orientations. Only a selection of photographs are shown here. This is the 20mm horizonal photograph. It shows the Joyner Ridge Trail going off into the field.
Second photograph in the series. Taken at the same time as the 20mm horizontal photograph. This photograph has a 35 mm focal length, so it has a closer view of Devils Tower.
Photographed a little later, close to or just at sunset. Clouds on the horizon are a rosy pink color. Overhead clouds are now dark blue.
Different presentation of the previous photograph, this one just wider but in the vertical orientation.
Now either at or just after sunset. The sky has turned from blue/pink to purple. The landscape had darkened as well.
Final landscape photograph of Devils Tower National Monument. Wide angle vertical orientation shot.
